Prices for tours from Vilamoura: what the "from" price does not tell you

On 5 September 2026, Vilamoura has 73 offers listed: from €6, median €57, and 16,989 reviews altogether. More important than any of these figures is the gap between two of them. The “from” price names the cheapest offer in a category; the median is the value that half of all offers in it exceed. Where the two are far apart, there’s a reason behind it.

Cave tours: from €23.20, median €120

Eighteen offers, the cheapest at €23.20, the median at €120. That’s fivefold, but not because someone is charging five times as much for the same trip: the list mixes two different kinds of product. Ten of the eighteen trips are charged per person, from €23.20 for four hours of sailing to Benagil up to €160 for the full day. The other eight are charged per boat, between €585 and €3,000.

The median of €120 is therefore not a price anyone actually pays: it falls into the gap between the most expensive per-person trip and the cheapest boat. The list is at cave tours from Vilamoura.

For catamaran and sailing, the median sits on the last per-person price

Nine catamaran offers, from €25, median €160 – and that €160 is the seven-hour Benagil experience, the most expensive offer still charged per head. Above that come four charters between €890 and €1,500. Sailing shows the same pattern: nine offers, from €29.40, median €80, and the €80 is the three-hour caves-and-coast trip, again the last per-person price before the yachts. Three categories where the median holds up

Dolphins: six offers, from €28, median €42.05. Sunset: six, from €25, median €42.50. Water sports: five, from €40, median €50. Here it’s almost all per-person prices side by side, and the median genuinely describes what to expect. Between €28 and €42 lies half an hour more travel time or a bigger boat.

One more thing when placing them side by side: the €25 catamaran offer and the €25 sunset-trip offer are the same two-hour boat in two lists. Two listings “from €25” are here one single offer. To compare: dolphin watching, sunset cruises and water sports.

€585 is a per-boat price

The private category starts at €585 and has a median of €1,040. These amounts are not per person but for the boat. The €585 is a two-hour trip to the Benagil caves for up to twelve guests: fully booked, that’s €48.75 a head, roughly the price of a good group trip. Shared between six it’s €97.50 per person, and at the median of €1,040 that’s €173.33.

For two to four people, a charter from Vilamoura is therefore almost always the most expensive option imaginable. It becomes what it promises once you are eight to twelve, want to set your own departure time, or have someone with you for whom a boat with forty strangers won’t work. Work out the price per hour

The most-booked trip from the marina lasts two and a half hours, goes to Benagil Cave and to the dolphins, and costs €44.10 – so €17.64 an hour. The five-hour trip to the same caves with brunch and an open bar costs €49, so €9.80 an hour: €4.90 more on the price tag, a good forty percent less per hour, meal included. The operator lists beer, white wine, water and soft drinks for the open bar, while also stating that your own food and drink are not allowed on board.

Right at the bottom, the “from” price wins after all: €23.20 for four hours is €5.80 an hour, the best value on the water. Right at the top, the sum flips. The jetboat costs €40 for thirty minutes, so €80 an hour; jet-ski hire is €90 for thirty minutes, so €180; the parasailing flight is €45 for ten minutes, which works out at €270 an hour. Not a bad deal, just a different product – there, you’re buying ten minutes, not a passage.

The five hours have their price in a different currency: they’re long with small children, and there’s no getting off along the way. Why that often argues against the longer trip is explained under half-day instead of full-day tours with kids.

What’s not in the price

Parking. Paid parking in Vilamoura is managed by Loulé Concelho Global. From 1 June to 30 September it applies Monday to Sunday from 9am to midnight, at €1.20 an hour with a daily maximum of €18. From 1 October to 30 May it’s €0.80, Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm, and free on Sundays. A four-hour trip in August therefore costs just under €6 in parking fees, because the meter is already running beforehand: the five-hour cave trip asks you at the meeting point thirty minutes before departure, parasailing fifteen. Photos. Two of the five water sports offers carry “free photos” in the title, the one at €45 and the one at €50. Nobody advertises that where photos are a given.

The way to the meeting point. “From Vilamoura” doesn’t mean the same jetty everywhere. The parasailing operators meet at Shop 29 in the marina or at Kiosk 14 next to the Sensatori restaurant; the jet-ski bases are on Praia da Rocha Baixinha, which adjoins the harbour to the west and already belongs to Concelho Albufeira.

Tips. No mandatory surcharge in Portugal, but €5 to €10 is customary for guides and drivers on longer tours, and 5 to 10 percent in restaurants. Cash, even if you pay by card.

Admission fees on land excursions. The day trip to Seville costs €72 and lasts twelve to thirteen hours; its description promises free time at the Real Alcázar but says nothing about the entrance ticket. That costs €15.50 standard, €8 reduced, free for children under 13, with the Cuarto Real Alto €5.50 extra. When the cheapest price is exactly what it looks like

The €6 that the range starts at is the tourist train through Vilamoura: a loop past the sights, not a guided tour, and for €6 nothing else is promised either. Anyone expecting an overview of the town from that is better served by a morning on foot and the list under what there is to see in Vilamoura.

Conversely, the extra spend pays off wherever it buys time rather than equipment. Four hours for €23.20 beats two and a half hours for €44.10 – unless those exact two and a half hours happen to fit the day. With a child who’s had enough after ninety minutes, the short, expensive trip is the right one, because the long, cheap one otherwise gets paid for twice – once in euros, once in the afternoon. These figures have a date

All the amounts here are “from” prices as of 5 September 2026 and move with the season, the day of the week and how full the boat is. A sunset trip in August and the same trip in March rarely show the same number. What you pay is the price on the booking page, and only that.
